Actiontec Unveils Expanded Line Of IPTV-Capable Gateways
Las Vegas, NV - Actiontec Electronics recently unveiled an expanded line of IPTV-capable consumer premises equipment for service providers of all sizes and infrastructures. The company now offers a full range of CPE products to support carriers' triple play initiatives, becoming the first vendor to support every major WAN and LAN distribution standard including VDSL2, ADSL2+ bonded, MoCA, HomePlug AV and HPNA3.
The new products follow last year's release of a fiber-based router that was adopted by Verizon for its FiOS broadband and TV services.
Actiontec's newest offerings include ADSL+, ADSL2+ bonded and VDSL gateways that can manage traffic loads ranging from 24 Mbps to 100 Mbps, support legacy telco delivery mechanisms as well as new fiber-to-the-curb/VDSL-to-the-house scenarios, and provide room-to-room content distribution with a choice of MoCA, HomePlug AV or HPNA3 networking in addition to Ethernet and WiFi connectivity.
These features and others, including bandwidth prioritization and TR-069 remote management capabilities, enable efficient handling of both standard and HDTV programming.

The new products are:
54 Mbps Wireless DSL Gateway (GT724WG)
Designed for smaller providers that want to offer IPTV without upgrading their infrastructure, this ADSL2+ modem has a 24 Mbps downstream throughput capacity as well as the ability to ensure quality of service to each set-top box in the house via support for multiple Permanent Virtual Circuits (PVCs). The size of the pipe allows the unit to process several standard TV streams, or one highly compressed HDTV and one standard stream, plus data and voice. The PVC support enables providers to create a separate path to each set-top in order to protect the traffic being routed to each TV. Wireless 802.11b/g and four-port Ethernet connections are standard. Built-in HomePlug AV or HPNA3 connectivity for content distribution over the home's electrical wiring or copper phone lines is optional.
Wireless Dual DSL Gateway (BA214WG)
This ADSL2+ bonded broadband home router integrates two Actiontec ADSL2+ modems to deliver 48 Mbps of throughput downstream and 4 Mbps upstream — enough for several HDTV and standard TV streams — without requiring new DSLAM equipment at the central office or new copper cabling in the subscriber's home. The unit also features built-in MoCA LAN capabilities for in-home distribution of HDTV and other content over existing coaxial cables; the option to add Actiontec HomePlug AV or HPNA3 adapters if either of these networking methods is preferred; and a high-end CPU capable of handling multiple high-throughput media streams simultaneously. Wireless 802.11b/g and four-port Ethernet connections are standard.
Wireless VDSL Gateway (KI414WG or VI414WG)
Offering throughput speeds of up to 100 Mbps both downstream and upstream, this high-end gateway is designed for ultra-broadband VDSL2 delivery to multiple dwelling units or to single-family homes in environments where providers are laying fiber to the curb with VDSL to the house. It is available with either an Ikanos (KI414WG) or Infineon (VI414WG) chipset to accommodate different telco preferences, has the same high-end CPU and MoCA/HomePlug AV/HPNA3 capabilities as the ADSL2+ bonded unit, and can support three HDTV and two standard TV streams. Wireless 802.11b/g and four-port Ethernet connections are standard.
